昨日書き忘れたことをまず。
あって，これが中学校の英語の教科書(開隆堂のNew Prince?；昭和時代ですわ)に
載っていた話だった。Wikipediaから拾うと，
Although Coolidge was known to be a skilled and effective public speaker,
in private he was a man of few words and was commonly referred to as “Silent Cal.”
An apocryphal story has it that Dorothy Parker, seated next to him at a dinner, said to him,
“Mr. Coolidge, I've made a bet against a fellow who said it was impossible to get more than
two words out of you.” He replied, “You lose.”
読売新聞にあるように，日本語だと「三語以上」になるから少し面白みにかけちゃうはず。
この話，Wikipediaの説明では，an apocryphal storyとあるから，本当は違う人物が本家かも？
